Big Bang’s Taeyang displays his jealousy towards Lee Michelle, one of the contestants of K-POP Star, SBS’s weekend popular audition show.
On the January 29 episode of K-POP Star, the contestants who were selected by one of the three representatives of Korea’s top three major entertainment agencies are trained by each agency’s training programs.
The contestants who were selected by YG Entertainment are directed to join individual training courses to test their capabilities. After the training course was completed, they faced a midterm test with Big Bang and 2NE1’s members as the panel of judges.
When asked if he has any contestant he has wanted to see, Taeyang evoked big laughs by saying, “I wanted to see Lee Michelle. These days my boss always sings her praises, so I sometimes became so jealous of her.”
Daesung gave some warm advices for his juniors.
On SBS “K-Pop Star”, the training scenes of SM Entertainment, JYP Nation, and YG Entertainment were shown.
On the day of the broadcast, we could see there were 13 participants of the program who were practicing songs in YG building and they were being assessed.
Daesung appeared in the program as one of the judges and he gave advice to some of the participants, ”When you change the habit of speaking, then you can change your habit of singing too. I really want to see your improvement.”

K-Pop fans are sure to remember the recent ad campaign for the North Face. Popular group Big Bang was chosen as the celebrity endorsers for the brand. The campaign had even taken the members to New Zealand for promotional photo shoots and commercial filming of the fellas and gear in action.
It appears that the North Face jackets are a hot commodity in Korea. In fact they might be too hot (this is not a reference to the jackets warmth). The down jacket has become something of a status symbol in the Korean school system; where it has been dubbed as “backbreakers” (for the hard work that went into being able to afford one). Due to the violence surrounding the jackets, they have also synonymously become an indication of being part of a gang.
An individual’s status can be defined from the jacket worn. For instance, the Nuptse 2 (₩250,000, $220 USD) is worn by “losers” while the Himalayan Down Parka (₩700,000, $608 USD) is worn by “the big boss.” Students won’t wear the expensive jackets in fear they will be targeted by gang members.
Most recently, five Busan middle schoolers had gone around pilfering North Face jackets. They had beaten four students and stole their jackets. One of the students arrested explained the reason behind the theft, “I just wanted the North Face jacket.” The violent rampages surrounding these jackets have been quite the issue as CNNGO even covered the topic.
Sure, the jackets are plenty warm for the brutal Korean winters, but that is not why these jackets are in demand. First off, the jackets are made by an American company, so they are foreign. Anything foreign is going to be rare and sought after. Second of all, they are expensive— A sure sign of status, not everyone is capable of owning one. Third, idol endorsement. Just because top stars were seen wearing something it becomes an instant must have item.
Lastly, it is a brand name. Most of the world equates the brand with hardcore outdoor enthusiasts. In this case it has nothing to do with the jacket’s style. A stylish Korean jacket can be bought for considerably less and would be just as warm.
Certainly none of the aforementioned reasons warrants this type of behavior. At times fashion and fandom get out of hand. The desire behind something spirals out of control that it only leads to violence. Enough is enough!
Big Bang member Daesung appeared on a variety show after a long while away.
On the January 29th installment of SBS’s ‘K-Pop Star, the YG training system was revealed with the casting audition finals coming up. The contestants attended the monthly evaluations.
Those who set out as the judges next to Yang Hyun Suk were 2NE1’s Park Bom & CL, and Big Bang’s Taeyang & Daesung. After the car accident last year, Daesung had been taking time for introspection. Recently Daesung has started working through MBN’s ‘What’s Up and Big Bang is about to make their comeback but it has been a long while since his appearance on a variety show.
After listening to a contestant’s performance, Daesung said, “I heard this a lot before too but the voice is sweet but the tone is unstable” pointing out sharply.
But Daesung also added, “If you make it a habit to speak with strength at all times, the voice when you sing has more strength too”, thoughtfully sharing an advice from experience.
