[FAN-ACCOUNT] StayG Concert (July 8, 2011)

First, I must explain how this Stay G Concert was promoted. Gmarket was sponsoring this free concert featuring the biggest artists from the Big 3 Korean entertainment companies (SM, YG, and JYP). In order to attend, the catch was to submit entries to their website in the form of instant entries, signed cd raffle entries, and SNS (social networking sites; e.g. twitter, facebook, me2day, cyworld) entries to help promote the concert.

After having done these entries daily for about 2 consecutive weeks, my friend Christina and I did not have any luck in being selected. So, what was our next best plan? We found sellers on Naver cafes and fortunately contacted these two high school girls willing to sell us their tickets. Yes, it was technically a free concert, but hey, we are working women who don’t mind giving these two girls some shopping money, haha.

Christina’s idea. I wish it were more proportionate and REAL, lol.

While waiting outside before the concert began, Christina and I struck up a conversation with a group of three middle school students who were also Big Bang fans. One of the girls even snatched a Gmarket staff badge, haha. We asked if she had backstage privileges, but she revealed that you also needed a special stamp for that. But really, who would let a middle school girl backstage? Haha.

Our seats were on the second floor, to the right of center and in the middle of our section. Not a bad view at all!

GD&TOP

Although DBSK and 2PM only had about 4 songs each, I knew GD&TOP would definitely have more since GD is of course currently endorsing Gmarket.

Intro Video

-This video was a compilation of Mnet’s BBTV Clips that counted down to the Stay G Concert.  This transitioned to the reused GD&TOP promo picture montage I have seen at Big Show. Afterwards, there was another short video that included an overweight man watching TV. Dissatisfied with the DBSK and 2PM channels, he started grooving to GD&TOP’s music. SO RANDOM. O_o

“Knockout”

-GD and TOP emerged from each end of the cross stage with their signature segways. The only problem was that GD’s segway did not seem to work, so he abandoned it and proceeded with the performance on foot. TOP, on the other hand, was riding around on his segway and finally realized, as he approched the middle of the stage, that GD wasn’t on his. He did a circle around GD and soon abandoned his segway too in the middle of the cross stage, haha.

-Not until the end of the performance did TOP awkwardly put aside his segway so that he had room to pose with GD, keke.

Oh, poor abandoned segway.

“Oh Yeah”

-GD sang Bom’s first chorus, while TOP sang the second chorus. They were both really cute about it and even tried to mimic Bommie’s voice and actions.

-GD definitely sounded like a soul sista. ROFL.

-Top sounded adorably flat as he sang Bommie’s part with his low voice.

“Baby Goodnight”

-While Christina predicted all of the songs being performed (based on previous GD&TOP sets), we did not expect this song to be sung at all, especially since I think this was the first time it was performed live (if I remember correctly).

-Just as when they entered for “Knockout,” GD and TOP were positioned on either side of the cross stage and finally met up in the middle at the very end. Most of my fancam/performance watching was done on the big screen in the middle, where I could clearly see their faces.

- The ending was pretty amusing as TOP did some ‘alien’ ad-libbing as he walked backwards up the ramp to the main stage. He shouted “CAUSE YOU’RE MA BEAUTIFUL GIRL!…YOU’RE MA BEAUTIFUL GIRL!……VIP!” while the french part was going, lol.

-GD did his signature bow at the end.

“Don’t Go Home”

-This is possibly my favorite GD&TOP performance. I just love the cheeky and cute choreography. The background graphics were also equally adorable.

“Heartbreaker”

-Now, I had an inkling GD would do a solo performance, since before the start of the song, Tabi was talking to the audience alone.

-I am so freaking glad I finally got to see “Heartbreaker” live. “Heartbreaker” is pretty much one of my top favorite albums ever. I’m still disappointed that I wasn’t able to attend ‘Shine A Light,’ but at least I got to experience this song once. And no matter where I am in the future, I will definitely attend GD’s second solo concert, whenever that will be, haha.

“Turn It Up”

-Gawd, I just love this song and performance. I practically have the MAMAs performance of the song imprinted in my head. The bass line itself makes me fall in love with it over and over again. This was another great surprise that I was fortunate enough to have experienced in person.

-During the initial bass beat, everyone chanted, “Choi Seunghyun!” (including me, keke… maybe i won’t reveal that part of the fancam? lol).

-Tabi really was on top of his game tonight. No longer was there the stiff, “I’m too cool to dance/move” persona. He really looked more comfortable on stage and was willing to go all out and really feel the music (as cheesy as that sounds, haha).

“High High”

-Although I was not a huge fan of the song when it’s MV was first released, I became a believer once I experienced it live at Big Show 2011. It’s a song that shines at its best when performed live. You can’t help but scream the adlibs, do the waving hand movements, and jump up and down with your finger pointing up to the sky.

-After the bridge, Tabi playfully took off his hat and ruffled his brown hair playfully. Christina and I are convinced that the boys always wear hats at small events like this, lol. 

Overall, it was nice that Cassies, VIPS, and Hottests appreciated all the performances regardless of their biases. On a more Big Bang-related note, GD&TOP definitely enjoyed themselves tonight with GD’s usual swagger and a surprisingly more playful and comfortable Tabi.
