[TRANS] Taeyang’s Naver Music Interview (120221)
Interviewer: What is Bigbang to you? Bae: I got the same question before. My answer will always be the same. Bigbang is a tree and I’m just a branch. When we are together as five, we make a big tree which has many leaves and fruits.
Interviewer: You guys had a hard time last year. Bae: Last year was a new beginning to us. I heard that many groups have their hard times after 5 years, last year was ours. For us, it was not because of an argument but something from the outside. On the other hand, I’m thankful. It gave us a chance of making us live longer and stronger.
Interviewer: What makes Bigbang one? Bae: Music. Our characters are so different. It gives the team a fatal blow because each has a very strong personality. However, we all like music, performing on the stage, dancing and singing together. We don’t argue whatever comes to us. We are always doing music happily and that makes us one.
Interviewer: You guys are the focus of attention but attention can be changed to indifference. Bae: It is true that people’s interest and love make us work harder but even if the circumstances change, we want to do music together. I really love being on the stage. I want to tell you to just watch us grow up, especially this year. Love our music once again. I don’t mean that buy our albums but rather watch our development, our growth.
Interviewer: Six songs are all titles. Bae: Yes. When we listened to our songs, it was very hard to choose just one title. Each song has a different meaning and shows a clear distinction. All songs are too good to miss. So we chose all 6 titles to show you.
Interviewer: I heard that ALIVE album is colorful. Bae: Yes. Every song has its own color.
Interviewer: Tell me about the first title song, BLUE. Bae: BLUE is really lyrical and sensitive. It is different from other songs that we’ve released before. It’s fresher than others. The lyrics are about emptiness and loneliness after breaking up. When we and the producers heard BLUE in the studio, we felt that BLUE is not attractive. However, when our friends heard the song, they said that it’s a touching music.

I may be just a small or big person in BIGBANG, but I realized that a single member can’t lose his “light”. When all 5 members are shining, that’s when BIGBANG shines. If one members loses his light, there’s no BIGBANG.
The biggest stress is… I should wait for our comeback day. I really want to come back soon. I can’t wait. I’m curious of their faces. I still remember them from when BIGBANG debuted. I want to see those faces again. Their faces were like, “Where did they come from?”, “What’s with their outfits?”, “What’s that music?”, “What’s that dance and what’s with their faces?” I still remember how surprised they were to see us. I, myself, have changed a lot. You might say, “Is that Seungri?”
If I get the chance, I want to make a song about us — how we’re like when we’re happy and how we’re like when we’re sad. There are songs about how we’re the best and how we’re like this and that, but I want to make a song about “what kind of people we are”.
I think ALIVE is the the most well-prepared album we’ve done compared to our previous ones. All the staff and the BIGBANG members are very tense. We’re ready and almost prepared. I’m sure ALIVE album will be a very big gift to our fans, who really love and support us.
Winter is gone and spring is coming. It means that the painful days are gone and the good days are coming. About BLUE, the members recorded their voices very warmly. I think it’s the best music to welcome spring.
Interviewer: Many fans have been looking forward to hear from you. How have you been? TOP: These days, I’m trying to concentrate on this album, ALIVE. Actually, there was a drama that I was working for 3 months but I cancelled it so I can focus on this album.
Interviewer: What does BIGBANG mean to you? TOP: When I have my kids, I want to show them my twenties. For me, it is a keepsake of my hottest youth.
Interviewer: What is the common thing about BIGBANG members? How can you guys be doing fine? TOP: In spite of having our own passion, we are so warm-hearted. Everyone is truthful, pure, passionate, energetic and always go for the same path. How could we do well as a team, it’s because each has different characters and dispositions but we don’t go against each other. When I see them as an older brother, they always lean on each other. They seem to be a real family, including me.
Interviewer: What do you think of this album? TOP: I’m dearly attached to this album. I had so many inspirations when I worked as GD&TOP. I wrote lyrics having much attachment/affection. This album shows our honest feelings. I really want to show you as soon as possible, without embellishment.
Interviewer: What is ALIVE? TOP: Alive is what it is. People think that last year was eventful and critical for us. However, we see it as an opportunity for us to grow up and eventually mature.
Interviewer: Tell me about BLUE. TOP: BLUE means a very sad thing. Like winter is over and spring is coming, we broke up and meet someone new like destiny. This song talks about these emotions.
Interviewer: What is the most account part in this album? TOP: Not to be too modern, too technical like a hardwood. Anyone can be modern, technical at anytime. I think it needs huge courage to be natural. All members are picking up the pieces. We always think what people want for us.

Interviewer: How have you been? Daesung: We had received the award ‘World Wide Act’ on EMA last year. It was a first that an Asian got a prize on EMA. We saw that award ceremony when we were still just a trainee. So it felt like a dream. I had YG Family Concerts in Korea and Japan with YG Family. These days, I’m doing my best for this album, ALIVE.
Interviewer: What is BIGBANG to you? Daesung: BIGBANG is my family. We are so close to each other. We have so many good things. When we have problem, I want to say sorry to them. When we are happy, I want to say thank you to them. We are five but I feel that we are also one.
Interviewer: Tell me about ALIVE’s meaning. Daesung: We are not really old but we have been BIGBANG for 6 years now. We have already shown various performances. People got accustomed to our music. So we want to show them, our talent, musical trial and passion are still ALIVE. Not dead.
Interviewer: Someone says that it’s too early to come out. How do you think about it? Daesung: I was so worried about that. I told Yang Hyunsuk, who is my boss, about my worries a lot. I gave a lot of thought about that matter. BIGBANG is a singer. We always tell them everything we want to express through our music. People express their feelings through crying or anger. We express it through music. Of course we need to have time for self-restraint and self-reflection but that period is not permanent. I want to share them about my emotion but care/worry sits heavily on me. I know it’s early to come out but it’s also right tim. I know that everyone can’t agree on the same thing. We have a burden that we have to share. We want to share our good music to them.
Interviewer: Tell me about BLUE. Daesung: ‘Sky Blue’ gives us good feelings but our’BLUE’, it is more like dark blue. It symbolizes longing, sorrow, pain and so on. We miss someone who’s already gone in this song. First lyrics are “Winter is gone, spring is come…” I think that Blue’s lyrics are really good. I felt that the same when I sang this song. Blue have two sensation; Hope and loneliness. Its melody is really lyrical and sad. I think it is also the right song to come out this time.
Interviewer: It has been a long time. How have you been? GD: I’ve been fine. I spent my time with my family. Prepared for this album and spent some time thinking this and that.
I: What is your thought about singers? I wonder, what do you think about your figure? GD: Well, when I was a young boy, I thought singers are cool. That’s why I wanted to be a singer in my early years. I think Bigbang is cool. Not being on the stage, but also in real life. I don’t mean that they are handsome and tall. I mean they got swag. There are so many things that I have to learn as a friend, a young brother, and an older brother. It makes me a burden because I’m a leader but it also makes me try to push myself.
I: What is your biggest stress/pressure? GD: Preparing for the next album. It is one of biggest pressure to me because the next album is more important than the last one. When I had to prepare for the last album, ‘TONIGHT’, I thought “This is the most important album!” When I prepared for this album, I thought “This album is the most important one!” Maybe I will think again the same when I prepare for a new album. It is also one of my pleasant worries. I was pulsating. Well, I don’t know. Last year, ‘TONIGHT’ was my favorite album. And now it’s ‘BLUE’. My taste in music changes continuously and I share it to people. I wonder what they will say to me after they listen to it and what part they like the most. I’m going well.
I: Bigbang sings mainly about LOVE. GD: I think many Korean think about love a lot and they want comfort. When you hear music, you think that “Oh this lyrics is what I have in mind.” or when you are sad, you hear the music and cry. That’s why music is powerful.
I: Tell me about BLUE. GD: BLUE… Many people think that idol group just have younger fans. But I think more twenties and thirties age group will really like this song. They will sing more and sympathize with this song more than teenagers will.
I: Do you have confidence in this album? GD: Uh…. Yes. I’m always confident with it. Not boasting. When we hear our music, we said “That’s it!” haha. Because it is ours. I pour out my soul and try to be frank. And… it is for the season.
